MAJOR ASCENT

Mountain: Mt Temple

Route: North Face, variant

Country: Canada

Height: 3543 meters / 11,624 feet

Dates of Expedition: January 1977

Overview of climb: Temple's North Face above Lake Louise was beckoning to all of us climbers. Mastering the techniques to climb it in winter was a path leading us into the unknown. We managed to make the first winter ascent of the face after five long days of extreme cold.

Team Members: Phil Hein, Carlos Buhler

Lasting Impression:

Phil (19 years old at the time) was the perfect partner for such an audacious climb.  We were stepping into a world that would take us through corridors we could not even imagine. It was an exciting time to be discovering our potential. We were extremely lucky to live through it.
