Looking down from the fixed ladders that we found on the steep flanks of the Kinshofer Route below Camp 2. This terrain is exposed and difficult. As on many of the world's high peaks, without the use of fixed ropes many teams would not get through this section of the climb.
Ivan Dusharin, my close friend, and I reached the summit of Nanga Parbat in reasonable weather and relatively acceptable wind conditions. We remained on the summit only briefly while we photographed the surroundings. http://www.shura007.com/k2/1997nanga/english/index.html
After our ascent, our first summit team posed for a group photograph in Base Camp together with some of our teammates. From left to right: Andrei Mariev, Carlos Buhler, Ivan Dusharin, Alexander Dosaev and our wonderful doctor, Luba Shvedova. Andrei Volkov and Victor Koleshnichenko (who both summited a few days later), Viatzheclav Volkov and Ali Madat are missing in this photo.
